Kashmar Carpets : The city of Kashmar is located in the Khorasan province southwest of the city Mashad in Eastern Iran. It has a very rich history and its old name is Torshiz. Exquisite high quality carpets have been woven for centuries there. The carpets are woven thick, with fine soft wool in beautiful blue colors in contrast with cream and ivory beige. In newer carpets they use soft green, red and brown. Characteristic of Kashmar carpets are the large sizes and the unique designs that look like paintings with trees, flowers and domes of mosques. Also depicted are representations that recount historical events, major incidents from Persian history or a historically known person or the story of a revered Persian king. In Kashmar they weave elegant masterpieces of color harmony, complexity of designs in detail, to show the Persian love of beauty and art. Kashmar rugs and carpets are durable and grow more beautiful with time.
Mashad Carpets : Mashad is known as the City of Ferdowsi the poet who wrote "Shahnameh", which is considered to be the national epic of Iran. It is also famous for its excellent quality wool. The old Mashad carpets were very good and had fine weave. For a time, due to the high manufacturing cost, quality did not meet the requirements of buyers and the demand had declined significantly. This happened until the mid-1950, when a significant improvement began. Their carpets started to look like works of art, with beautiful, tasteful, fine and detailed drawings. A great variety of flowers, "mir I botah", beautiful medallions and borders with garlands adorn Mashad carpets. The colors are almost always herbal. In Chorasan there are many krapprot which give a very sweet red. The Indigo blue is also the second of the main colors used. The knots used are senneh (Persian knot) and ghiordes (Turkish knot). The Mashad carpets called Turkbafs, in which the ghiordes knot is used, are of very high quality and aesthetics.
Classic Carpets: Carpets that are woven in urban centres in fixed workshops and looms(as opposed to nomads). Their designs are first done on paper by carpet designers. These designs are strictly conducted by the weaver during the manufacturing. Even in these carpets, though there may be slight variations in weaving.
All CarpetU2 carpets are subject to cleaning with high quality antibacterial and moth protection products according to Persian law.
Abrash: Due to the different amount of grease in the wool and the added salt during the process of dyeing, the wool has got a varying colour absorbance. This is not very visible before weaving. During the weaving though, lines of the same colour are formed in the carpet. This is called Abrash (which in Farsi means little cloud) and it shows that the wool was not manufactured using chemical means and marks the naturalness and authenticity of the carpets. Examples
